PLTU DEATH THREAT, WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?

Banks as fund-raising institutions have a central role in supporting the creation of a sustainable financial ecosystem. However, the majority of banks have not fully considered environmental, social and governance factors in the policies and practices of lending and investment.

According to a study by Responsibank (2019), banks contributed up to US$ 16 billion or 83% of PLTU financing in Indonesia during the 2014-2019 period. One of these banks is @BankMandiri, which contributed up to US$ 500 million. Banks should stop PLTU financing and transition through increasing credit portfolios and investing in environmentally friendly power plants (EBT). The reason is that the PLTU causes various environmental, health impacts to the economy of the residents around the PLTU which are increasingly declining due to the loss of livelihoods.

Distributing investment funds to the PLTU project is the same as supporting the occurrence of damage. Let's encourage banks to stop financing the PLTU project by giving your feedback via the comments below and the hashtag #StopPemfundanPLTU Source: Responsibank Indonesia
