Indonesia faces widening economic inequality—the wealth of the three richest individuals has soared 174% in three years, while wages have only risen 15%. Data shows our fiscal policy has failed to provide a solution: the Gini index has fallen by only 3%, far behind other countries that have achieved 5-15%. While 98,82% of the population has savings of under Rp100 million, a handful of elites control trillions of rupiah. Yet, a progressive tax of 1-2% for the ultra-rich could raise Rp78,5 trillion—funds that could build fairer public services. Paragraph 2: Global inequality is also worrying: billionaire wealth has grown 7,1% annually since 1987, seven times the income of ordinary citizens.
