Setyo Budiantoro is a policy advisor and sustainable development practitioner with over two decades of experience in public policy, inclusive development, ESG, and sustainable finance. He helps governments, the financial sector, businesses, and development organizations translate development commitments into credible, measurable, and implementable policies, governance, and financing decisions.
Her contributions include the development of a national SDGs action plan and indicators, involvement in the development of an innovative financing regulatory framework for the SDGs, and the development of an Integrated National Financing Framework, blended finance, SDGs Bonds, and Blue Bond Indonesia based on International Capital Market Association standards. One of her key areas of focus is aligning ESG with the SDGs so that corporate sustainability strategies and investment decisions are linked to national development priorities and generate accountable impact. Currently, she serves as a Senior Expert at the National Secretariat for SDGs, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas; Senior Adviser at the Indonesian Association of Sustainable Development Goals (Perkumpulan PRAKARSA; Senior Advisor at Green Network Asia; and member of the Fair Finance Asia Advisory Committee.
He also teaches in the Postgraduate Programs in Sustainable Finance and Development at Udayana University and Trisakti University. As a writer and policy analyst, he has published over 200 articles, is a regular columnist for Kompas and a contributor to the Asia Times, and is the author of the book Inclusive Development: Prospects and Challenges for Indonesia, published by LP3ES.
He earned a master's degree in Development Economics from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam, after completing postgraduate studies in economics at the University of Indonesia. He also attended programs at the University of Oxford and George Washington University, and was selected as an IDEAS Fellow at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Apart from being a productive author in policy analysis, articles, and books, he has won several competitions on development ideas.
