Multidimensional Poverty Profile of West Kalimantan Province
In general, multidimensional poverty in West Kalimantan Province (West Kalimantan) showed a significant decline in 2012-2021. The multidimensional poverty rate fell from 68,81% in 2012 to 26,03% in 2021. A significant decrease occurred in rural areas, with a decrease from 81,79% (2012) to 32,78% (2021). For a decade, multidimensional poverty has decreased significantly from 2014 to 2015, from 59,77% to 49,93%. In the same year, rural areas experienced a significant decline from 59,77% to 49,93%.
The Province of West Kalimantan has consistently experienced a decrease in the multidimensional poverty rate from 2012 to 2021, but there has been an increase that occurred in 2018-2019 in urban areas from 17,29% to 18,52%. In addition to the decreasing number of multidimensional poverty, there was also a decrease in the intensity of multidimensional poverty from 52,81% in 2012 to 43,77% in 2021. The biggest decrease occurred in villages which experienced a decrease from 53,93% to 44,06%. This shows that the level of intensity of poverty has decreased, indicating that the burden of poverty experienced by the poor in West Kalimantan has become much lighter and less than a decade ago.
Multidimensional poverty index which describes the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty. IKM in West Kalimantan has decreased from 0,36 in 2012 to 0,11 in 2021 or decreased by 0,25 points. The biggest decline occurred from 2014 to 2015, namely a decrease of 0,07 points, while in 2016-2017 there was stagnation in the multidimensional poverty index in West Kalimantan, which was 0,23 points. In general, over the past 10 years, there has been a decrease in the number of IKM in West Kalimantan Province, but when viewed from villages and cities, there has been an increase in the multidimensional poverty rate. In urban areas the multidimensional poverty rate has increased in 2018-2019. However, a gradual decline occurred in the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

In general, district/city poverty in West Kalimantan originates from indicators of decent housing, proper drinking water, and toddler nutrition. Apart from these indicators, there are also other indicators that contribute to district/city poverty, such as morbidity, [1] length of schooling, [2] and sanitation [3]. The district/city with the highest poverty index is Sekadau District with an IKM of 0,18. 37,26% of the population in Sekadau District experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 48,09%. The district/city in West Kalimantan with the lowest poverty is Pontianak City with a multidimensional poverty index of 0,040. Only 9,66% of the population in Pontianak City experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 41,57%.
