Multidimensional Poverty Profile of South Kalimantan Province

In general, multidimensional poverty in the Province of South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan) shows a significant decline in 2012-2021. The multidimensional poverty rate fell from 62,80% in 2012 to 17,02% in 2021. A significant decrease occurred in the rural areas with a decrease from 78,88% (2012) to 24,42% (2021).

For a decade, multidimensional poverty experienced a significant decline from 2014 to 2015, namely a decrease of 8,73 points. The highest decline in multidimensional poverty at the village level occurred in 2020-2021 with a decrease of up to 10,55%. The Province of South Kalimantan has consistently experienced a decline in the multidimensional poverty rate from 2012 to 2021 (from 29,32% to 24,42%), and urban areas have experienced a significant decrease from 36,89% (2014) to 26,15% (2015). In addition to the decreasing number of multidimensional poverty, there was also a decrease in the intensity of multidimensional poverty from 49,33% in 2012 to 42,34% in 2021. The biggest decrease occurred in villages which experienced a decrease from 50,20% to 42,24%. This shows that the intensity level of poverty has decreased, indicating that the burden of poverty experienced by the poor in South Kalimantan has become much lighter and less than a decade ago. The multidimensional poverty index describes the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

IKM in Central Kalimantan has decreased from 0,31 in 2012 to 0,07 in 2021 or decreased by 0,24 points. The biggest decline occurred in 2014-2015, namely a decrease of 0,05 points. In general, over the past 10 years, there has been a decrease in the number of SMEs in the Province of South Kalimantan, but when viewed from villages and cities, there has been an increase in the number of multidimensional poverty that has occurred. In urban areas the multidimensional poverty rate has increased from 35,23% (2013) to 36,89% (2014) and from 2018 (16,36%) to 2019 (18,36%). However, a gradual decline occurred in the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

Multidimensional Poverty Index of South Kalimantan Province Based on Regency/City

In general, district/city poverty in South Kalimantan originates from indicators of decent housing, proper drinking water, and morbidity. Besides these indicators, there are also other indicators that contribute to district/city poverty, such as length of schooling, cooking fuel, and sanitation. The district/city with the highest poverty index is Kotabaru District with an IKM of 0,113. 25,64% of the population in Kotabaru District experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 44,15%. The district/city in South Kalimantan with the lowest poverty is the city of Banjar Baru with a multidimensional poverty index of 0,015. Only 3,68% of the population in the city of Banjar Baru experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 40,24%.
