JAKARTA (stunting.go.id)- Decrease stunting in Indonesia it can still be accelerated further until it reaches the target set by the government, namely 14 percent in 2024. This means it requires a decrease of 7,6 percentage points in two years or 3,8 percentage points per year.

However, it certainly requires improvements in governance, sensitive interventions and specific interventions. Public Policy Analyst Ah. Maftuchan said that to achieve this very high target requires stronger coordination, synchronization and integration between ministries and institutions, and between levels of government.

He said this when giving a presentation entitled "Evaluation of the Downsizing Agenda stunt in Indonesia: Strengthening the Multidimensional & Multistakeholder Approach" at the Technical Coordination Meeting (Rakortek) for the Acceleration of Decline stunt 2023 at the Grand Mercure Hotel Kemayoran, Jakarta (4-7/10/2023). The event, which was held by the Vice President's Secretariat, was attended by 14 provinces and 288 districts/cities throughout Indonesia.

According to Maftuchan, the prevalence rate stunting dropped significantly during the era of President Joko Widodo and Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin. In this era, the prevalence rate stunting has fallen 9,2 percentage points from 30,8% (2018) to 21,6% (2022). However, unfortunately this achievement is still far from the target of 14 percent at the end of his second term.

Maftuchan, who sits as Executive Director of The Prakarsa, pointed out a number of shortcomings as an internal evaluation for the acceleration of the reduction program. stunting has improved. So far the program has accelerated the decline stunting has involved all parties, both government and private.

But the problem is that private sector involvement is currently still participatory in nature. “Decrease stunting still belongs to the government. "Residents and households still do not have a strong awareness of improving nutrition," he stressed. This shows that stunting has not yet become a popular social issue.

So far, joint action has prevented it stunting which involves the central government, regional governments, community institutions, as well as the private sector has worked well and on a certain scale has succeeded in reducing the numbers stunting in a number of regions in Indonesia.

This cross-sectoral collaboration seems to have been quite successful with a reduction in the percentage of cases stunting gradually and surely. However, this collaboration is mostly initiated by the government and public or private positions are more likely to be participants.

"The government must start providing space for non-government actors to become complete implementing actors, supporting actors and monitoring actors," he added.

He warned the government to stop mobilizing funds from
private sector, but the government must encourage the private sector to become full implementing actors. The government only needs to ensure that the actions taken by the private sector remain consistent with the national strategy and cannot be separated from the convergence actions that have been determined.

Furthermore, Maftuchan also assessed that the level of commitment of leaders in ministries and institutions as well as between levels of government, such as provincial government, district/city government and village government is still not on the same frequency. This can be seen from the many areas that have not yet placed them stunting in budget priorities and there are still those who consider it stunting only the health sector domain.

He asked that this be something that must be improved for this year and next year. "For this reason, the target of 14 percent in 2024 must be a joint outcome by ministries and institutions, provincial government, district/city government, village government, corporations, philanthropy and civil society organizations," he said.

He also sees that next year will be prone to disruption by political noise because there will be elections. So, he warned that TP2S elements must fortify the reduction agenda stunting from the frenzy of negative externalities of the 2024 election. (mjr.mw)
