Multidimensional Poverty Profile of West Papua Province
In general, multidimensional poverty in West Papua Province shows a very significant reduction in 2012-2022. The multidimensional poverty rate fell from 74,99% in 2012 to 41,65% in 2021. A significant decrease occurred in urban areas with a decrease of 58,83% in 2012 to 21,98% in 2021. For a decade, multidimensional poverty has decreased significantly in 2018 to 2019 from 52,72% to 45,24%. This significant decrease occurred at the village level by 64,16% in 2018 to 54,81% in 2019. The lowest decrease occurred in 2019 of 45,24% to 43,96% in 2020.
In the same period, the lowest decline also occurred in urban areas from 32,07% to 31,13%. In addition to the decreasing multidimensional poverty rate, there is also a decrease in the intensity of multidimensional poverty from 53,09% in 2012 to 46,46% in 2021. The biggest decrease occurred in villages which experienced a decrease from 55,26% to 46,91% in the the same time. This shows that the level of poverty intensity has decreased, which means that the burden of poverty on multidimensional poor households in West Papua is less than a decade ago.
The multidimensional poverty index which describes the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty in West Papua has decreased from 0,40 in 2012 to 0,19 in 2021 or decreased by 0,21 points. The biggest decline occurred in 2018-2019 which fell 0,05 points from 0,26 to 0,21. Whereas in 2016-2017 and 2019-2020 there was stagnation in the multidimensional poverty index. In general, over the past decade, there has been a significant decline in SMEs in West Papua Province and this has been followed by a gradual decline in the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

West Papua Province Multidimensional Poverty Index Based on Regency/City
In general, district/city poverty in West Papua stems from indicators of cooking fuel, decent housing and proper drinking water. Apart from these indicators, there are also other indicators that contribute to district/city poverty, such as birth certificates, toddler nutrition and the internet. The district/city with the highest poverty index in 2021 is South Sorong Regency with an IKM of 0,429. As much as 79,38% of the population of South Sorong Regency fall into the multidimensional poor category with a severity level of 54,04%. The district/city with the lowest poverty in 2021 is Sorong City with a multidimensional poverty index of 0,084. As much as 18,34% of the population of Sorong City fall into the multidimensional poor category with a severity level of 45,92%.
