Multidimensional Poverty Profile of West Sulawesi Province

In general, multidimensional poverty in West Sulawesi Province has shown a very significant reduction in 2012-2021. The Multidimensional Poverty Rate fell from 77,04% in 2012 to 27,25% in 2021. A significant decrease occurred in rural areas with a decrease of 83,92% in 2012 to 30,10% in 2021. For a decade the multidimensional poverty rate experienced a significant decline in 2018 - 2019, namely a decrease from 49,17% in 2018 to 39,71% in 2019, this considerable decline occurred in rural areas with a decrease of up to 10,72 points. The smallest decrease occurred in 2017 – 2018 with a decrease from 51,55% in 2017 to 49,17% in 2018, in this period the smallest decrease occurred in rural areas with a decrease from 56,66% in 2017 to 55,10 in 2018.

In addition to the decreasing number of multidimensional poverty, there was also a decrease in the intensity of multidimensional poverty from 57,86% in 2012 to 44,94% in 2021. The largest decrease occurred in rural areas, which experienced a decrease from 58,10% to 44,99%. This shows that the level of poverty intensity has decreased, which means that the burden of poverty on poor households in West Sulawesi is much less than a decade ago.

The multidimensional poverty index which describes the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty (IKM) in West Sulawesi has decreased from 0,45 in 2012 to 0,12 in 2021 or decreased by 0,32 points. The biggest decline occurred in 2014 to 2015, namely a decrease of 0,06 points, the smallest decline occurred throughout 2013-2014, 2016-2017,2017, 2018-2019 and 2020-0,02 with a decrease of XNUMX points each. In general, for a decade there has been a significant decline in SMEs in West Sulawesi Province and this has been followed by a gradual decline in the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

West Sulawesi Province Multidimensional Poverty Index Based on Regency/City

In general, district or city poverty in West Sulawesi originates from indicators of decent housing, proper drinking water, and toddler nutrition. Apart from these indicators, there are also other indicators that contribute to district/city poverty such as morbidity, sanitation and cooking fuels. The district/city with the highest poverty index in 2021 is Mamasa Regency with an IKM of 0,233 points. This district has 50,54% multidimensional poor population with a severity level of 46,17%. Meanwhile, the regency/city with the lowest poverty is Central Mamuju Regency with a multidimensional poverty index of 0,088 points. This district has 20,22% of the population experiencing multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 43,29%.
