Multidimensional Poverty Profile of North Sulawesi Province

In general, multidimensional poverty in North Sulawesi Province (North Sulawesi) has shown a significant decline in 2012-2021. The multidimensional poverty rate has decreased from 58,11% in 2012 to 15,97% in 2021. A significant decrease has occurred in rural areas with a decrease from 58,11% in 2012 to 23,49% in 2021. Over the last 10 years multidimensional poverty experienced a significant decline, from 49,98% in 2014 to 40,09% in 2015. In the same year, rural areas also experienced a significant decline from 66,93% in 2014 to 51,07% in 2015.

The Province of North Sulawesi has consistently experienced a decline in the multidimensional poverty rate from 2012 to 2021, but there has been an increase in urban areas from 15,93% (2017) to 17,38% (2018) and 17,38% (2018) to 18,76 % (2019). In addition to the decreasing number of multidimensional poverty, there is also a decrease in the intensity of multidimensional poverty from 50,18% in 2012 to 43,67% in 2021. The biggest decrease occurred in rural areas, which experienced a decrease from 51,07% (2012) to 43,79 % (2021). This shows that the intensity level of poverty has decreased, indicating that the burden of poverty experienced by the poor in North Sulawesi has become much lighter and less than in the last decade.

Multidimensional poverty index which describes the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty. IKM in North Sulawesi has decreased from 0,29 in 2012 to 0,07 in 2021 or decreased by 0,22 points. The biggest decline occurred in 2014-2015, namely a decrease of 0,06 points. In general, during the last 10 years there has been a decrease in the number of IKM in the province of North Sulawesi, but when viewed from villages and cities, there has been an increase in the number of multidimensional poverty that has occurred. In urban areas the multidimensional poverty rate has increased in 2016-2017 (1,45 points) and in 2018-2019 (1,38 points). However, a gradual decline occurred in the percentage and intensity of multidimensional poverty.

Multidimensional Poverty Index of North Sulawesi Province Based on Regency/City

In general, district/city poverty in North Sulawesi comes from indicators of decent housing, under-five nutrition and morbidity. Apart from these indicators, there are also other indicators that contribute to district/city poverty, such as proper drinking water, [1] cooking fuel, [2] and birth certificate W[3]. The district/city with the highest poverty index is the Talaud Islands district with an IKM of 0,17. As much as 37,89% of the population in Talaud Islands District experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 43,67%. The district/city in North Sulawesi with the lowest poverty is Tomohon City with a multidimensional poverty index of 0,02. Only 4,39% of the population in Tomohon City experience multidimensional poverty with a severity level of 42,21%.
