Encouraging the Promotion of Inclusive and Effective International Tax Cooperation at the United Nations: Draft Nigerian resolution on behalf of the African Group

Dear,
Madam Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Madam Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia

Best wishes!

We, the Indonesian Fair Tax Forum, write with great respect for the Indonesian Government to provide support for the draft resolution submitted by the African Group regarding the Promotion of inclusive and effective international tax cooperation at the United Nations, an initiative that will begin the process towards a “United Nations framework convention on international tax cooperation.”

This resolution will go through a voting process in Committee II of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, November 22, between 10.00-13.00 New York time (less than 2 hours from now)

We are sure that the Minister has received an attached copy of the draft resolution. We believe that in Indonesia's interests, a framework convention is the most beneficial among the three (3) options outlined in the UN Secretary General's Report in connection with the “Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 30 December 2022 on the Promotion of inclusive international tax cooperation and effective at the United Nations” (A/RES/77/244).

Let us also state our position that negotiations related to the resolution should be designed comprehensively and should include, among other things, taxation of the digital economy (taxation of electronic commerce), taxation of extractive industries, and taxation of financial transactions.

We are full of confidence that the Indonesian government will vote in favor of the African Group Resolution.

Best regards,
Indonesian Fair Tax Forum
