PRAKARSA Encouraging Strengthening of Green Industry and Green Jobs

Jakarta, The PRAKARSA - The PRAKARSA organize Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled "Strengthening the Monitoring System of the National Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPIN) and the Regional Industrial Development Master Plan (RIPID) that is Adaptive and Inclusive in the Green Industry Agenda and the Creation of Green Jobs," on Tuesday (16/9/2025), at the Mercure Gatot Subroto Hotel, Jakarta.

The FGD brought together representatives from various directorates within the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Manpower, civil society organizations, and think tanks. The presence of these cross-sector stakeholders underscored the importance of the green industrial transition agenda and the creation of inclusive green jobs in Indonesia.

The industrial sector is a significant contributor to carbon emissions and a major driver of the Indonesian economy, contributing approximately 19% to GDP and employing 19,3 million people. This FGD provides a strategic platform for exchanging ideas, formulating solutions, and strengthening a shared commitment to advancing the green industry agenda and creating green jobs. The discussion results will provide important input for refining industrial policies at the national and regional levels.

Executive Director PRAKARSAAh Maftuchan, in his remarks, emphasized that strengthening RIPIN and RIPID monitoring is an important step to ensure that the green industrial transition not only reduces emissions but is also able to create quality jobs.

Strengthening Policy Interventions to Promote Green Industrial Transformation

The discussion in the FGD was guided by the team PRAKARSA with a keynote session from Jati Pramono, Program Manager PRAKARSAThe participants were then divided into several thematic groups to discuss RIPIN issues, the green jobs agenda, and three priority subsectors: textiles and textile products, battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB), and food and beverages.

The series of discussions yielded several important insights. Participants emphasized the need to harmonize RIPIN and RIPID with the green industry agenda to ensure more consistent policy direction. Furthermore, the integration of green jobs policies into planning documents was deemed urgent to ensure the industrial transition also impacts job quality.

Several strategic issues were highlighted, including the need for reskilling and upskilling of the workforce, particularly in labor-intensive sectors like textiles; the need for stronger policy interventions in this sector to ensure it remains afloat in the green transformation; and the importance of creating sustainable domestic demand for green products. Participants also emphasized the need for monitoring indicators that cover the entire value chain to make the definition of green jobs more comprehensive and operational.
