PRAKARSA Support the Establishment of the National Tax Revenue Agency

The recommendation of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia to establish the National Tax Revenue Agency (IBRA) received support from the Association Prakarsa, a member of the Indonesian Equitable Tax Forum.

The discourse on the establishment of a tax-collecting authority that is directly responsible to the President has surfaced since the beginning of President Joko Widodo's administration in October 2014.

In addition to the establishment of a tax revenue agency, the discourse that emerged at that time was the option to form a State Revenue Agency, which combines all types of revenues, such as taxes, customs duties, and other non-tax revenues.

Ah Maftuchan, Executive Director of the Society Prakarsa, emphasized that his organization had long been pushing for the formation of an independent tax agency. According to him, President Jokowi at the beginning of the first period of his administration had also responded to this proposal, and would shape it.

"Prakarsa has long submitted a recommendation for the establishment of a tax agency which is directly under the president.” Tutur Maftuch answered questions from Beritabaru.co via WhatsApp on Tuesday (23/7).

According to Maftuch, with the release of DGT from the Ministry of Finance, and becoming an independent institution under the President, in general, state financial management will improve. This is because the government can separate financial management from state revenues.

In addition, he continued, he also urged the reform of the tax court under the Ministry of Finance. He expects the tax court to be under the Supreme Court (MA).

"The Tax Court must also be in line with the judicial power so that it can be more transparent, authoritative, and able to minimize abuse of authority". He said firmly.

Maftuch emphasized that the President should put the tax issue back as a priority. Not only related to revenue targets, but also about regulatory reform and institutional reform. [Dafit/Priyo Atmojo]
