The PRAKARSA Presenting the JKN Study at the International Sociological Association Forum in Morocco

Rabat, Morocco, The PRAKARSA– Between July 6-11, 2025, Victoria Fanggidae, Deputy Director of The PRAKARSA, participate in 5th ISA (International Sociological Association) Forum at the Université Mohammed V de Rabat, Morocco. This forum carries the theme “Knowing Justice in the Anthropocene”, which highlights the importance of justice for all levels of society in an era where human activities are the dominant influence on climate and the environment at the global level.

ISA is a non-profit organization under UNESCO that focuses on scientific objectives in the field of sociology and social sciences, and has special consultative status with Economic and Social Council United Nations (UN). This forum, held every four years, is attended by more than 4.000 participants from 100 countries.

On that occasion, Fanggidae presented his research on Indonesian social health insurance entitled “To centralize and decentralize the Indonesian social (health) insurance: dispensing the burden of poverty, informality and work casualisation”This presentation was delivered in session RC-19 (Research Committee-19 on Poverty, Social Welfare and Social Policy), sub-panel Welfare Politics in the East Asian Welfare States, on Friday (11/7/2025).

His research explores the concept policy layering to analyze the evolution of Indonesia's National Health Insurance (JKN), particularly in the division of financial responsibilities between the central and regional governments since its launch in 2014.

"Amidst growing concerns and risks regarding the impacts of climate change, social and environmental policies must be synchronized and reconciled. The term 'eco-social policies' is increasingly relevant in the context of the Anthropocene," said Fanggidae.

He also emphasized the importance of understanding and cooperation between social scientists from North-South and South-South countries to learn from each other and create solutions to global social, economic, and environmental challenges.
