Background
The Initiative Association collaborates with Oxford University (Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative) is developing a new instrument for calculating poverty numbers and indexes in Indonesia. The calculation instrument used is Multidimensional Poverty Indexs (MPI).
MPI is a new approach to measuring poverty. MPI has been used by UNDP in compiling reports Human Development Report (HDR) since 2010. MPI is also included in one of the indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which this year will be agreed as a consensus in post-MDG global development.
Several countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Malaysia, China, Bhutan, the Philippines, India and Colombia have adopted the MPI as a poverty calculation and in the preparation of poverty reduction programs. In fact, the results of the evaluation carried out on the country were very positive in overcoming the problem of poverty because they were able to capture the real conditions of poverty that occurred in the country.
Perkumpulan Prakarsa has carried out several processes in compiling the Indonesian MPI. At this stage, the MPI Research Team from Perkumpulan Prakarsa has calculated the MPI starting from the national, provincial to district/city levels. The database is already well available. To compile the Indonesian MPI report, there are two report formats that will be compiled, namely the National MPI report and the Regional MPI report.
To compile the Regional MPI report, we invite fellow researchers, academics and CSOs to be actively involved as writers. In order for the information between the MPI Research Team of the Prakarsa Association and the Regional MPI Writing Team to be synchronized, we will hold a Training Workshop on MPI Calculation and Analysis and Preparation of Regional MPI Reports.
