C20 India 2023 work starts from Nagpur City, “Zero Mile of India”

The PRAKARSA - Civil-20 (C20) India 2023 as part of the India's G20 Presidency has organized Inception meeting for three days in Nagpur City, Maharashtra, India, on (20-22/03/2023). This event is a step up for C20 as official engagement group of the G20 to affirm its commitment to conducting policy advocacy through the G20 forum. Main agenda Inception Meeting C20 India 2023 this includes a forum for conveying priority issues of concern to the C20 to the G20 and the public at large.

C20 India 2023 established 14 working groups (working groups) and 1 special committee in finance. Of the fourteen working groups, among others: integrated holistic health; sustainable and resilient communities: climate and net zero targets; education and digital transformation, gender equality and disability; technology security and transparency; lifestyle for the environment; preservation and conservation of traditional arts, crafts and culture: traditional and innovative ways of livelihood and employment; revival of human rights and human values; sense of service, philanthropy and volunteerism; diversity, inclusion and mutual respect; and SDGs 16 and promoting civic space. There are 400 civil society organizations from various countries active in the 14 existing working groups.

Inception Meeting C20 India 2023 attended by 327 delegates from 26 countries and attended by key speakers including: Kailash Satyarthi (Nobel Peace laureate in 2014), Mata Amritanandamayi (Chair of C20 India 2023), Swami Amritaswarupananda (Troika C20 India 2023), Ah Maftuchan (Sherpa of C20 Indonesia 2022 / Troika C20 India 2023), Alessandra Nilo (Gestos Brazil / Troika C20 India 2023), Vijay Nambiar (Sherpa of C20 India), Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India), Shri Devendra Fadanavis (Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Abhay Kumar (Sous Sherpa and Additional Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs of India) and several speakers from various other stakeholders.

As Sherpa C20 Indonesia 2022 and Troika C20 India 2023, Executive Director of the PRAKARSA, Ah Maftuchan had the opportunity to deliver a welcoming speech at the opening session of the event. “C20 is a forum that remains relevant for generating innovative ideas, concrete policy proposals and a forum that brings together leaders of civil society organizations (CSOs) worldwide with various other development actors. We must make C20 a forum that brings together a spirit of togetherness among CSO activists to contribute to overcoming current global problems. Advocacy work must be continued seriously and in close collaboration with the G20," said Maftuchan.

Maftuchan invited CSO activists to work together to ensure that C20 India 2023 was successful in submitting policy recommendations that technically and politically feasible to the G20 and accommodated by the G20. Some examples of success from C20 Indonesia 2022 include: i) several C20 policy proposals that were accommodated by the G20 Employment Working Group (Employment Working Group of G20) is an inclusive labor market monitoring-evaluation policy for persons with disabilities, a community-based job training mainstreaming policy (community-based vocational training) and adaptive social security; ii) proposal C20 to G20 Joint Finance and Health Task ForceThe accommodated JFHTF is multi-stakeholder approach di Pandemic Fund, where there are representatives of CSOs sitting at governing bodyhis Pandemic Fund.

Maftuchan also said that advocacy work does not only stop at discussions and agreements in the room. The C20 must continue to monitor the commitments and implementation of the consensus created at the G20. CSOs in ensuring that the agreements contained in the G20 really have benefits for the community. Therefore, we need to strengthen the role of CSOs in reducing the gap between policy and practice in the field. We need to continue to be confident and optimistic that CSOs can contribute to solving global problems.

Finally, Maftuchan emphasized his commitment to assist India's C20 presidency to ensure continuity and sustainability of the process. Evidence that there is continuity and continuity between Indonesia and India is multiple working groups continues, for example wworking group Gender Equality and Disability.
